Food a key element of parties and events, according to Tipiak survey

A survey undertaken by French pâtissier Tipiak has revealed the importance of food at parties and events.

As we head towards the Christmas season, the sweet and savoury pâtisserie specialist has revealed that 54% of people think that food is more important than drink when they attend an event such as a party or reception.

And one in two Brits will position themselves at a reception or party so that they have the best access to food or the waiter carrying the food.

The survey, undertaken by Perspectus Global on behalf of Tipiak, also shared valuable insight for food service professionals about how to serve canapés.

Four in ten Brits believe that you should be able to eat a canapé with just one bite and the respondents polled said that on average they would eat six canapés at an event.

Marie-Emmanuelle Chessé, international development project manager at Tipiak, which supplies frozen, authentic French sweet and savoury pâtisserie to the UK hospitality sector via frozen food distributor Central Foods, said: “The results of our survey are useful for food service professionals as we head towards the busy festive season with its receptions, parties and other celebrations.

“Canapés should be a key ingredient of any drinks reception or function, especially at Christmas. Tipiak’s authentic ‘thaw and serve’ range of canapés can help professional caterers to provide a delicious spread of snacks and bite-sized savoury treats for guests to accompany their drinks. Conveniently pre-prepared, Tipiak’s canapés simply need defrosting before serving – freeing up kitchen staff to concentrate on other parts of the food offering at Christmas parties and events.”

Based in France, Tipiak supplies a range of canapé selections to the UK food service sector, including vegetarian and vegan options. Each piece is prepared by expert bakers and cooks, and hand finished. The Tipiak canapé selections are perfect for Christmas events, cocktail parties, receptions, conferences, weddings and other occasions.

The research of 2,000 Britons was commissioned by Tipiak and conducted by Perspectus Global during June 2024.

Save on costs by choosing pre-prepared canapés, suggests pâtissier Tipiak

When hospitality is allowed to open up again and operators are able to cater for parties and events once more, Tipiak has the perfect time-saving, no-wastage solution.

Did you know that a comparison study looking at the cost of using frozen food versus freshly prepared foods concluded that it was more cost effective to buy ready-made frozen alternatives….especially when it came to canapés?

The British Frozen Food Federation instructed the Manchester Food Research Centre to conduct a ‘cost comparison’ study; investigating the overall cost of using frozen foods compared to ‘freshly prepared’ foods. It took into account the cost of ingredients, labour, energy and wastage, and focused on catering in a small pub or restaurant.

Canapés – one of Tipiak’s specialities – were one of the meals evaluated in the study, along with a breaded Camembert, a lamb shank, salmon en croute, profiteroles and strawberry cheesecake.

The study revealed that buying frozen canapés could represent a 66% cost saving.

It concluded on the whole that “it was more cost effective to buy ready made frozen alternatives than producing dishes from ‘scratch’, particularly the more labour intensive products such as canapés which involves a high skill level at a considerable cost.”

The report went on to say…. “The large time factor involved in the preparation, cooking and finishing times would be significantly reduced using the frozen alternative. Costs would also be saved in terms of wastage – as there would be no if very little preparation of ingredients when using a frozen alternative. In addition, staff costs could be kept to a minimum – as the skill levels of the staff required to run the kitchen would be minimal.”

Tipiak has been supplying exquisitely French canapés to the UK food service sector for many years – supporting food service professionals in restaurants, bars, hotels, universities, care homes, event venues and other outlets.

We offer a super selection of ‘thaw and serve’ canapés – all prepared and hand-finished in France. Made with the finest ingredients, our savoury canapés offer a wide range perfect for catering any event, from weddings to awards, cocktail parties to conferences…..we have a bite-sized delight to suit them all.

Choose from our new French pop macarons fruits selection which features six fruity flavours (blackcurrant, lemon and yuzu, apricot, cherry, passionfruit and mango, and coconut) or the French macarons collection, which includes the more traditional flavours of lemon, caramel, vanilla, raspberry, chocolate and pistachio.

Simply thaw and offer as an impulse line alongside your freshly brewed coffee or other drink so customers can treat themselves during these uncertain times and indulge in a mini, exquisitely French treat.

Or how about teaming a macaron with a mini French tart and a pop éclair to create a premium takeaway café gourmand – popular in France as a dessert or mid-morning treat. For another profit making idea, operators could even make them up in to small bags or boxes for customers to buy to indulge in or share later – the macarons can even be eaten straight from the freezer, for a deliciously, light, cooling treat during the warmer weather!

So, if you’re looking to perk up your beverage menu, why not treat your customers to Tipiak’s exquisitely French macarons. They’re ideal accompaniments to coffee, tea and other hot or cold drinks, and at less than 50 kcals each, a luxury indulgence without the guilt that could also help your bottom line!
